Collagen Peptides:
From Bioactivity to Biolift
Collagen Peptides: From Bioactivity to Biolift
Abstract
Collagen peptides are bioactive fragments derived from hydrolyzed collagen that stimulate dermal fibroblasts and enhance extracellular matrix formation. Their targeted action helps restore skin structure, elasticity, and hydration.
Introduction
With aging, collagen production declines while enzymatic degradation accelerates. Supplementation with low molecular weight collagen peptides has shown to upregulate synthesis of types I and III collagen, reversing visible signs of skin aging.
Mechanism of Action
Specific peptides bind to fibroblast receptors, activating TGF-β and MAPK signaling pathways. This promotes new collagen and hyaluronic acid synthesis, improving dermal density and reducing wrinkles.
Scientific Evidence
• VERISOL® and Naticol® peptides have demonstrated clinical improvements in skin elasticity, hydration, and wrinkle reduction.
• Bioavailability studies confirm absorption and integration into the skin matrix.
Conclusion
Collagen peptides function as signaling molecules to regenerate skin from within. Their use in nutricosmetics is backed by mechanistic and clinical validation.

Effects of NaticolⓇ on skin moisture-related factors, hyaluronic acid (A), sphingomyelin (B), TNF-α (C), IL-1β (D), IL-6 (E), HAS2 (F), LCB1(SPT) (G), DEGS1 (H), and elastin (I), in HaCaT cells exposed to UVB. Cells were treated with UVB (50 mJ/cm2), except NC, and incubated for 24 h with 100 µg/mL of L-ascorbic acid (PC) and various concentrations (100, 200, and 400 µg/mL) of NaticolⓇ collagen. Values are presented as mean±SD. Different letters (a-e) represent significant differences at P<0.05, as determined by Duncan’s multiple range test. Primers used for gene expression analysis are listed in Table 2. TNF, tumor necrosis factor; NC, normal control; C, control; PC, positive control; UVB, ultraviolet B.
